Welcome back! Today we will learn more about the Bible. We will start with the Old Testament.
There are 39 Old Testament books and 27 New Testament books. These books fall into 8 sections
Section one Genesis-Deuteronomy
These books form the Legal ("law") section. This section is also called the Pentateuch, meaning five volumed book
In these books Moses traces the beginning of all things, including the origins of the Jewish race and the first few centuries of the history of the Nation of Israel.
Section two Joshua-Esther
This is the historical section, books that cover the history of the Israelites as they moved into the land of Canaan and took possession of it, through the days of the judges and the Kings, and then into the experience of going into exile under foreign, pagan nations, and returning into the land under the leadership of Ezra and Nehemiah.
Section three Job-Song of Songs
These five books form the poetical section. (Almost 1/3 of the Old Testament was originally written in poetry.) The name for this section is derived from the style of Hebrew text (poetry) used throughout these books. While David is thought to have written nearly half of the psalms, Solomon is considered to be the author of most of the proverbs, as well as the book of Ecclesiastes and Song of Songs.
Section four Isaiah-Malachi
This section is made up of the Prophetical books. Normally they are divided into two parts, the major prophets (Isaiah-David) and the minor prophets (Hosea-Malachi). The titles are derived from the size of the books in each part, not the content. God spoke to His people through the prophets, calling His people back to Him as well as predicting future events.
