I pray these insights will be helpful to you and lead you to an enjoyment and excitement in your study of the Bible
The name "Bible"
The term "Bible" denotes the Holy Scriptures that were originally given by God, copies of which have been preserved down through the centuries. It may surprise you to know the word "Bible" never once appears in the pages of scriptures. It derives from the Greek term bibllion or biblos, a name given to the fibrous coat or bark of the papyrus reed--a substance from which the ancient scrolls were made. Bibllion (used 34 times) in the New Testament, is translated either books or scrolls.
Finding a verse
To look up a verse, such as Genesis 7:1, you would go to the index to see what page Genesis starts. Then, at the top of each page, it will read Genesis, then the chapter number, in this case chapter 7, and then the verse which is number 1. Each chapter of Genesis and all 66 books of the Bible, will have the numbers clearly and in large print where a new chapter begins. You would llok on the page until you see a large 7. Since this is for verse 1, you would simply read the first line after the 7 until you come to a tiny number 2 which would signify the next verse.
Application: Ask your friends what their favorite verse is and practice looking them up
